Level Crossing Safety

You probably can’t eliminate all level crossings, but many would cause little inconvenience if they were sealed off. Interestingly, the one where the accident happened at Ufton Nervet is on a secondary road, that would mean a detour of no more than a mile for anyone.

Here where I live near Newmarket, we are always having trouble and accidents at level crossings, although luckily no-one has been killed. If all of those crossings without an attendant signal-box were sealed some would cause severe problems. Many would be extremely expensive to eliminate as they are very close to housing, which would have to be demolished.
